About

J.P. Marshall Literary Agency (est. 2017) is an independent London-based nonfiction agency dedicated to filling the world with good books.

We pursue this goal by dedicating ourselves to the excellent authors we represent, seeking maximum impact for their words and ideas, and always in alignment with their longer term creative and professional goals.

Our authors write about philosophy, economics, technology, history, science, business and other nonfiction areas. They write biography and memoir and books about human behaviour. They write books that make you better at doing things, books that strengthen your wellbeing, books that console, books that provoke. They write books that educate and change the way you think, and books that aren’t afraid to go there. They write books that just ought to be read.

We always strive to foster a spirit of true creative collaboration and partnership. We put in the effort to make significant contributions, formed by decades of publishing experience, at every stage of the process, from the feeling-out of initial ideas and the craft of writing compelling proposals, all the way through the editorial and publishing processes that flows from the book contract.

We are able to navigate between publisher and author in ways that come from deep knowledge of the inner worlds of both.

J.P. Marshall works with publishers in the UK and US, from major groups, to independents, to university presses. And we attend the two major international book fairs, in London and Frankfurt, to ensure our authors’ works have global visibility and impact.

Subsequent to a fruitful initial alliance with A. M. Heath Literary Agents from late 2016, J.P. Marshall Literary Agency, working with international rights partner LPA Associates, took on all of the business functions of the agency from mid-2017.
